We entered the world of Rhodesian Ridgebacks in 2003. We were looking for a smart, healthy, athletic breed to share our lives. We wanted a dog with a lot of endurance that could go running and backpacking with us. We also wanted an independent minded dog, one that could make decisions on it's own. We researched various breeds for a year or so and when we found the Rhodesian Ridgeback written breed standard it seemed like someone had developed a dog exactly for us. Well, we definitely got the traits we were looking for and more. When searching for a name for our kennel we found an Afrikaans word Jaag. In English it translates to run, hunt, race and chase. This seemed so appropriate since those words describe Cirque and Mabel's favorite activities. So Jaag Rhodesian Ridgebacks it is!
We are forever indebted to Susan Ralston V.M.D. (Ridge View Ranch) for allowing Cirque and Mabel to live with us. She and her co-breeder Danielle Sand V.M.D.(Ivy league Ridgebacks) have held our hands every step of the way in our journey through the world of Ridgebacks. We love hiking and backpacking in the mountains of Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho. The red rock canyons of Southern Utah are Cirque and Mabel's favorite playgrounds.
